The Big Eddy to this day embodies the true character of the resilient and diverse growth of Revelstoke. Across the Columbia River from the rest of town, at one time it marked a navigational hazard in a river which still has a number of these 'eddies', a type or river riptide along the picturesque river. Made up of exceptionally large lots, the Big Eddy has gone from being an area with a bit of farming and industrial land to a sought after location due to the incredible and often large lots. It's also up and coming in terms of independent new business including glass blowers, welders, coffee shops and new development.
A locals use bridge accessible along Douglas Street connects Downtown to the Eddy, with the river bordering one side and running up to highway 95 south which heads to the Nordic Centre, Mount Macpherson bike and cross country trails as well as the Upper Arrow Lake and ferry headed out to Nelson and the wonderful towns to the south. The Big Eddy Pub and Grocery/Gas station are institutions in town, for the locals and savvy newcomer or traveler alike.
There are amazing adventure destinations available from every area in Revelstoke. The Big Eddy is on the way to Frisby/Boulder bike and snowmobiling, Moses Falls, Mount Macpherson, the Columbia River and Upper Arrow Lakes. You can still have a chicken coop in the Eddy not to mention the breakfast sandwiches from Vince at the local store are a locals best kept secret.
