Revelstoke's downtown characterizes the quintessential, perfect Alpine Village. Its common to see tourists and locals alike walking or biking throughout with an enchanted look of wonder at the beauty of this historically preserved European styled town.
Much of the core is protected with historic designation which preserves the exterior architectural form of the buildings. There is a good mix of new structures being built which also require architecture matching historical context.
Everything is in walking distance with an eclectic mix of restaurants, parks, boutiques, mountain goods and public amenity buildings. Outdoor performances are regular through the year and a strong sense of community provides for an embracing setting. Home lots vary from 25 - 100' in some instances although lot sizes are becoming smaller as larger lots get subdivided to allow for more homes. Pride of ownership, beautiful landscaping with large maple trees and an amphitheater of mountains make this one of the most beautiful places in Canada, if not maybe on earth.
In the centre of it all. There is never nothing to do, except for maybe a week during a rainy shoulder season when you'll cherish the moment of beautiful solitude. Downtown used to be along Front Street in historic times and was moved up to where it is now.
Schools, art galleries, many heritage preserved homes, well plowed streets in winter. Fantastic real estate investment values as is most locations in Revelstoke. Very, very walkable or for many, ridable on the Townie bike.
